External Description

Position Description

ModeX Therapeutics, an OPKO Health Company, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated analytical scientist to join our Protein Science team. The individual will be part of an established multidisciplinary biologics drug discovery and development team to design, produce and characterize novel therapeutic antibodies.  This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a cross-functional team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge biotherapeutics in a fast-paced, rapidly growing biotech company with a bold vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Effectively collaborate with colleagues with diverse scientific background and contribute to our interdisciplinary biologics research teams to drive the screening, characterization and optimization of innovative therapeutic molecules.
  • Develop and optimize analytics methods for both routine QC and detailed MAM (multiple-attribute method) analysis of biotherapeutic candidates using advanced LC-MS techniques including intact mass, peptide mapping, post-translational modification (PTMs) profiling.
  • Serve as a key member of the protein analytics core team to conduct detailed biochemical/biophysical characterization and developability assessment of therapeutic molecules.
  • Be responsible for experimental planning, execution, data analysis/interpretation, and communication with cross-functional teams for the advancement and successful completion of research projects.
  • Stay scientifically current and contribute to the implementation of innovative technology and instrumentation to improve ModeX’s biologics drug discovery workflows and biologics characterization capabilities.

Qualifications

  • PhD in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical science or other relevant life science disciplines.
  • Strong experience in advanced liquid chromatography and mass spectroscopy techniques and platforms including HPLC, UPLC, Q-TOF and LC-MS/MS for the characterization of biotherapeutics. Direct experience in high-resolution LC MS systems such as Orbitrap and Biopharma Finder is desired.
  • Familiar with routine biochemistry and protein analytics technologies for biologics production and characterization including FPLC, aSEC, RP-HPLC, and BLI/SPR.
  • Knowledge in antibody structure and function, and experience in antibody drug discovery and multispecific antibody development are preferred.
  • Track record of scientific accomplishments as evidenced by a strong publication record and a drive for self-development with a focus on scientific know-how.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organization, and data analysis skills. Outstanding troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly adaptable to a fast-paced work environment and capable of working both independently and collaboratively within project teams.
